Greenhouse Gases

The first step is to get to know the greenhouse gases better, and what they are capable of.

We all know the term, ‘ greenhouse gases’ and its implications.  Simply put, green house gases are responsible for warming the planet by disallowing the light and heat to bounce back into space.

It’s important to note that Green House Gases are not evil – without them the average temperature of the Earth’s surface would be roughly -18 degrees Celsius (-0.4 degree F).  Bad things happen when there’s an overabundance of greenhouse gasses which perpetually warm the planet.  We know this.  To achieve net zero emissions, our chess match with industry leaders is to absorb these gases at the same rate that they are produced.

Naturally occurring GHG’s

Water Vapor (H2O)

Carbon Dioxide (C02)

Methane (CH4)

Nitrous Oxide (N2O)

Unlike the naturally occurring GHG’s, “Fluorinated Gases” have no natural source and are a result of human-related activities. However it is not simple to remove the admittance of these gases from everyday life as they are responsible for a variety of industrial processes such as aluminum and semiconductor manufacturing, and perhaps more importantly, act as viable ozone-depleting substitutes. Nonetheless, the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of these gases are astronomically high relative to carbon and do have a much greater impact.

Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)

Perfluorocarbons (PFCs)

Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6)

Nitrogen Trifluoride (NF3)

Four main categories of Fluorinated Gases:

The rates above indicates the rate of which each gas traps heat MORE times than C02 (Naturally occurring GhG) **Perfluorocarbons (PFCs) – traps heat up between 7,390-12,200 times more than CO2, the number presented in the chart is the median of these numbers.

As the ®Blu-nit organization builds partnerships with the various entities that produce, transport, process, and sell to the consumer, we will be able to bring more information and transparency to you in regards to how long it will take the environment to rebound from the creation of the product that you seek to purchase.
